Concept and mechanism
RUN handover should establish that the team can observe, diagnose, and recover the service within the agreed scope. Delivering slides or obtaining a signature does not establish execution. A controlled rehearsal by an authorized operator reveals access, documentation, and dependency gaps that the procedure author may overlook. Record results, limitations, and actions with deadlines and owners. If acceptance is conditional, identify the authority accepting risk and temporary coverage. Criteria should follow the service and its criticality without automatically copying another organization process. This course teaches decisions; it does not establish that a lab or actual recovery has been executed.
Guided application
Reserve improvement work to reduce repeated tasks and address obsolescence. Eight minutes twelve times a day equals ninety-six daily minutes: compare removing the cause, automating, and retaining the procedure, including risk and maintenance. In a decommissioning project, a host without monthly traffic can have a quarterly job. Confirm cycle, owner, alternative, retention, and recovery before removal. Measure associated costs, including volumes and licenses, instead of declaring zero cost merely because the host stopped. For a dependency approaching end of support, gather inventory, risk, effort, and window to feed planning. This allows the 25% project allocation to address causes that keep consuming the 75% support allocation.
RUN without log access lacks demonstrated autonomy; a quarterly resource is not proven unused by one idle month.
Common pitfalls
Signature as capability; automation without maintenance; CPU-only decommissioning; support deadline without an owner.
