SQL Agent remains available in SQL Server and Managed Instance, with documented differences in the latter. Azure SQL Database provides no local SQL Agent; Elastic Jobs can run T-SQL against database groups. Define targets, permissions, concurrency, and impact on shared pools. Managed identity reduces distributed secrets but needs appropriate users and grants in targets. A job working as administrator in an interactive session may fail when scheduled because owner, context, and database differ. Compare those elements before granting sysadmin. A job name or Enabled schedule state establishes neither execution nor completion of the intended operation. Operational ownership should include handling of failures outside staffed hours.
Guided application
In a fictional load, COMMIT may finish before a timeout reaches the client. Retrying with new IDs can duplicate movements. Use a stable event key, committed state, and transaction boundaries to make resumption idempotent. Retaining each attempt history supports reconciliation. For infrastructure, Bicep what-if previews changes without executing them and has analysis limits. Review impact, apply changes through the authorized flow, and validate resources, permissions, and application afterward. Alerts should measure step outcomes, delay, and business completion. Distinguish a transient failure suitable for retry from persistent authorization denial requiring correction. A green deployment does not establish that tomorrow’s scheduled job will operate under its real identity.
