Operations, batch, and observability

Connect technical signals to outcomes and reprocessing decisions.

Concept and mechanism

L3 support needs to reconstruct a sequence using coherent references and timestamps. A timeout describes what the caller observed; it does not alone determine whether the destination produced an effect. Before repeating an instruction, understand the identity contract, deduplication retention, and status-query mechanism. A new reference can mean a new operation. In partially completed batches, separating completed, rejected, and unknown outcomes avoids turning a limited problem into widespread duplication. Investigation should preserve evidence and involve the person authorized to approve reprocessing. This pathway uses synthetic scenarios and executes no payments or operations on real systems.

Guided application

Also observe arrival rate, completion rate, and queue age. If 900 items arrive each minute and 700 leave,200 accumulate each minute regardless of apparently low CPU. Find the constraint before choosing a change: I/O waits, locks, external limits, or insufficient concurrency may be involved. Logs should outlive the component under investigation; in Kubernetes, local Pod storage does not replace a destination with an independent lifecycle. An alert should identify affected service, evidence, and possible action. The runbook adds prerequisites, boundaries, escalation, and functional verification, enabling shift decisions without dependence on informal memory.

IN PRACTICE

Example:114 of 120 instructions have confirmations. The team scopes six pending items, checks state, and decides by identity rather than automatically resending all 120.

Common pitfalls

Timeout treated as rejection; low CPU treated as sufficient capacity; local logs treated as archive; restart treated as complete runbook.
