Concept and mechanism
Cloud migration changes responsibility boundaries without eliminating customer work. In IaaS, guest OS and configuration still need management according to the contracted service. CASB helps observe and control cloud-service use, with coverage dependent on integration. For workloads, observed flows support segmentation, but one quiet morning can omit batch, recovery, and rare calls. Before promoting policy to enforcement, compare the sample with application cycles. In Secure Workload, agent and OS support also constrain capture; an eBPF error can explain missing telemetry without meaning communications are absent.
Guided application
In a fictional project, a pipeline detects a secret in IaC. Stop publication, remove the reference, and assess revocation or rotation because deleting one line does not eliminate earlier copies. For containers, non-root is insufficient if they remain privileged or broadly access the host. RUN handover should also demonstrate usable logs. Send an identifiable synthetic event and check timestamp, fields, and destination search. In Splunk Enterprise, HEC acknowledgment has a specific replication guarantee; it does not prove parsing retains the event or fields are correct. Do not automatically transfer that behavior to Splunk Cloud. Define owners and alarms for breaks along the path so an empty dashboard is not accepted as absence of incidents.
Producer HTTP 200 and a missing SOC event leave acceptance incomplete.
Common pitfalls
Cloud as total transfer; sample as complete dependencies; non-root as total isolation; sending as searchability.
