Concept and mechanism
Production success has several levels: process started, job ended, file sent, recipient processed, and transactions reconciled. Requirements define which are needed to conclude work. A local success code does not alone prove remote processing. In this course’s scheduler and CFT examples, the fictional procedure requires recipient confirmation; no universal semantics across products are assumed. Reconciling inputs, outputs, and exceptions using identifiers helps locate unexplained transactions. If 500 arrive and 498 leave, two need investigation without proving permanent loss or fraud.
Guided application
Include end-user tools when they support critical outcomes, such as a close spreadsheet. Assess access, versions, formulas, validation, and ownership proportionately to impact. Emergency changes may be allowed by process but remain subject to defined subsequent controls. Also check log integrity and retention: if one administrator can alter the only evidence without trace, confidence is limited. For capacity, compare tested load with claimed peak. In SLA reporting, preserve denominator and exclusions: 99.9% over 43,200 minutes with no exclusions permits 43.2 minutes of downtime. Fifty minutes exceed that budget by 6.8 regardless of dashboard presentation.
Resending without checking whether the recipient already processed may turn uncertainty into duplicate transactions.
Common pitfalls
Exit 0 as complete close; urgency as total exemption; off-peak sample as quarter-end capacity.
