Governance, resources, and suppliers

Assess alignment, accountability, and quality of IT reporting.

Concept and mechanism

Governance connects business direction, accountability, and oversight. Audit seeks evidence of that connection: objectives translated into investment, owners for risks and controls, useful metrics, and tracked decisions. A strategy promising resilience is not demonstrated merely by delivered features. A business case including decommissioning should retain those costs in reporting or explain an approved scope change. Audit does not directly choose vendors or assign shifts but can show that planned resources cannot meet the SLA. Recommendations should enable management to decide treatment, timing, and priority using appropriate information.

Guided application

Check indicator denominators. A patching KPI ignoring machines without agents may present misleading coverage. In information management, identify who decides classification and retention, with legal and privacy support for applicable obligations. Do not derive periods from storage price. For vendors, read product, period, exclusions, and responsibilities in the assurance report. A pre-migration document may remain useful but does not automatically cover the new service. Include relevant SaaS, API, and federated-identity dependencies when the objective covers the complete process. External ownership of a component does not eliminate risk it introduces into the business outcome.

IN PRACTICE

A 15-minute response SLA is not demonstrated by a rota leaving two hours without an owner.

Common pitfalls

Contract as transfer of all accountability; vendor name as scope; average as coverage of every window.
