Concept and mechanism
A fund’s net value is assets minus liabilities; dividing by outstanding units gives per-unit value. In a synthetic exercise, 18.6 million in assets minus 0.6 million in liabilities gives 18 million; three million units produce 6.00 per unit. This calculation teaches the distinction between gross, net, and unit value. It does not replace valuation policy, share-class rules, fees, or other real-fund details. The Investor.gov reference concerns US products; its frequency rules do not automatically apply to European funds. For APS, the useful question is whether required inputs and controls were demonstrated before publication.
Guided application
Corporate actions add dependencies involving announcements, eligibility, entitlements, instructions, and payments. Receiving a correctly formatted announcement does not prove the client received cash. A correction should retain its relationship to the event and support review of dependent effects rather than automatically create a second entitlement. Reconciliation should compare references, currency, date, amount, and state across sources. Two equal-valued breaks should not be offset without understanding their cause. When evidence is missing, keep the break open and route it to the owner. Alternative pricing or financial adjustment requires the prescribed approval. The technical role preserves provenance, scopes impact, and executes authorized decisions under control without inventing an economic rule to meet a deadline.
Example: calculation exited zero, but one price is from yesterday. Publication depends on exception handling required by the scenario policy.
Common pitfalls
Exit zero treated as approved valuation; announcement treated as payment; correction treated as new event; equal totals treated as reconciliation.
