Demand, requirements, and service offerings

Turn needs into usable options and defensible priorities.

Concept and mechanism

An offering describes how a customer can obtain an outcome and under what conditions. Before promising earlier reports, identify the decisions depending on them, necessary quality, and delay consequences. File creation time does not establish that its content enables task completion. Maintain a link between need, requirement, acceptance criterion, and outcome evaluation. This helps discuss changes without relying only on the requester’s identity. When three features cannot fit the same window, compare value, risk, deadlines, and dependencies using agreed criteria, making exclusions explicit.

Guided application

Managing demand includes distinguishing necessary work from avoidable contacts. If people repeatedly ask about completed operations, test better confirmation and status visibility. Measure the effect before declaring the cause resolved. When some requests can move in time without losing value, negotiate windows and observe capacity effects. Do not automatically move requests with critical deadlines. Experience design also needs evaluation: fewer clicks may worsen decisions if users cannot distinguish simulation from submission. Test representative tasks, handle exceptions, and compare offerings by actual coverage, including night support, integration, and adoption effort.

IN PRACTICE

A lower-price offering may need additional support to meet night-use needs.

Common pitfalls

Volume as value; solution as need; fewer clicks as understanding; prioritization by pressure received.
