Value, flow, and the system view

Distinguish integrated outcomes from local efficiency and transformation activity.

Concept and mechanism

Start with the path enabling someone to use a capability. In a reconciliation service, request, analysis, implementation, validation, and operational transition may consume weeks even when technical execution takes only two days. Map waits and handoffs before choosing a solution. The busiest team may not be addressing the largest constraint. If development sends larger batches to saturated validation, local throughput rises while time to use worsens. The observation boundary should make that effect visible. Organizing people around value requires understanding who must collaborate to complete the outcome, including operational expertise, rather than merely renaming teams.

Guided application

Use a case where three components arrive on time but do not work together. Instead of adding green reports, demonstrate the integrated flow and identify the dependency preventing daily close. The same reasoning applies to transformation: meetings held and certifications earned are activity, not proof of better business response. Observe time to value, quality, and adaptability. Also retain an economic perspective when comparing solutions. Migration, coexistence, maintenance, and retirement may sit with different teams while belonging to the same investment decision. Do not turn the initial construction budget into a representation of all cost.

IN PRACTICE

In a 30-day path with two execution days, investigating waits may reveal more opportunities than optimizing code alone.

Common pitfalls

Local utilization as value; components as an integrated solution; meetings as transformation; construction as total cost.
