AZ-204: Azure development, historical path
Historical AZ-204 content and still-useful Azure skills: deployments, Functions, data, security, diagnosis, and integration. Exam retired July 31, 2026.
Objectives and progression
Six original lessons, 35 questions, and five fictional cases develop Azure application skills using the archived January 2026 objectives and technical documentation consulted in September. AZ-204 and Azure Developer Associate were retired; this path does not prepare for a currently available booking. It preserves useful learning and helps identify transferable knowledge. The replacement listed in the catalogue has its own syllabus: completing this content does not demonstrate AI-200 coverage. The internal assessment reuses 23 decisions and does not award certification.
Audience: Azure developers, APS, and technical managers of releases and integrations.
Prerequisites: Azure fundamentals, programming, HTTP, and data persistence.

What you will explore
0 / 6Versions and controlled deployment
Distinguish artifact, configuration, identity, and traffic.
Functions, failures, and safe repetition
Design invocation and effects to survive retries.
Data, concurrency, and history
Protect updates and distinguish current state from complete history.
Identity, tokens, and authorization
Connect the right identity to the right operation and resource.
Telemetry and request diagnosis
Use signals with explicit scope and meaning.
Messages, events, and API contracts
Coordinate delivery, effects, progress, and authorization.
