Terraform Associate: infrastructure as code
Prepare for Terraform Associate 004 through decisions on providers, plans, modules, state, secrets, and HCP Terraform. Includes infrastructure and support examples.
Objectives and progression
Eight modules connect the eight objective groups of exam 004 to project and operating decisions. Learn to interpret plans, protect state and secrets, reuse modules, and prepare adoption of existing infrastructure. Original questions and five fictional cases explore risk, concurrency, and support handover. This first pass is introductory preparation rather than exhaustive coverage of every subobjective or an executable lab. The final assessment reuses path exercises and does not simulate the official exam.
Audience: Cloud engineers, support professionals, and technical managers coordinating infrastructure changes.
Prerequisites: Basic terminal, Git, and cloud or on-premises architecture knowledge. No paid account is needed to study this path.

What you will explore
0 / 8IaC and change decisions
Connect desired state, review, and operating responsibility.
Providers, versions, and resource identity
Distinguish requirements, version selections, and state bindings.
Workflow, validation, and plans
Choose commands by effect and review impact before execution.
Configuration, dependencies, and secrets
Control relationships, conditions, and values without confusing redaction with protection.
Modules and usage contracts
Reuse infrastructure through explicit inputs, outputs, and versions.
State, locking, and drift
Preserve bindings and reconcile changes outside the workflow.
Import, inspection, and diagnosis
Adopt existing objects without confusing identity with functional changes.
HCP Terraform and collaboration
Organize runs, variables, and access in shared contexts.
