Need, future state, and change strategy

Investigate causes and construct a feasible path to the intended outcome.

Concept and mechanism

A technology request may contain an unclarified need. Asking for Kubernetes does not establish that reconciliation errors are caused by the current platform. Start with the undesired outcome and available data. Describe the current state using relevant processes, people, information, rules, and technology. Then define the future outcome with agreed measures and constraints. Modernize alone does not indicate what should improve. Value depends on stakeholders and context: less manual intervention may free capacity, reduce errors, or improve service, but each hypothesis needs its own conditions and evidence.

Guided application

If twenty minutes out of eight hours is processing and the rest is waiting and analysis, CPU acceleration has a clear limit on the promised benefit. Compare options addressing relevant causes. An API still in pilot is an uncertain dependency, not guaranteed availability. Record how the assumption will be validated and what to do if it fails. The strategy should include transition states, validation capacity, and legacy exit. Migrating everything in one weekend may be infeasible if the team can validate only two applications. Discuss phases, coexistence, and retirement criteria with appropriate authorities. A constraint may be negotiable, but the analyst does not remove it unilaterally.

IN PRACTICE

Installing the new system does not automatically retire old data, integrations, and obligations.

Common pitfalls

Solution as need; intent as capability; promised benefit without a cause; forgotten retirement.
