Concept and mechanism
Job title alone does not determine who can perform business analysis. A project manager, operations specialist, or product owner can contribute while respecting agreed responsibilities and authority. Select an approach based on uncertainty, dependencies, risk, and organizational conditions. Well-defined work may benefit from advance planning; evolving needs may require discovery and frequent feedback. A hybrid initiative can combine formal architecture approval with iterations on user experience. A banking context does not make all discovery predictable or remove governance from an agile team. Make deliverables, decisions, owners, and information maintenance explicit.
Guided application
In a fictional migration, changing file arrival time affects a job, reconciliation, support staff, and a business report. A simple matrix links need, requirement, component, test, and consumer. Use traceability to assess the proposal instead of assuming a one-line change has little impact. Compare current and intended states and consider training, data conversion, and continuity during transition. Someone beginning the practice can gather evidence, document impacts, and propose options under guidance; they should not independently approve a change beyond their authority. After a decision, update links and communicate the valid version.
Changing delivery time may affect consumers absent from the initial technical design.
Common pitfalls
Agile treated as no control; diff size treated as impact; analysis treated as automatic approval.
