Concept and mechanism
Describe risks concretely enough for another person to understand what may happen and why it matters. An unvalidated route may prevent a batch from finishing before cut-off: the condition, uncertain event, and affected objective are connected. “Network problem” leaves almost everything undecided. If a certificate has already expired and connections fail, there is an incident to manage. Delayed recovery or recurrence risks may remain, but observed expiration should not be treated as merely a future possibility. This distinction helps coordinate project management and production support.
Guided application
Examine assumptions and constraints. Unconfirmed specialist availability is an assumption to validate; the end time of an approved window is a constraint. Uncertainty may concern finishing within it. Include opportunities: an automation pilot may reduce rework, but benefit at scale needs validation before removing it from the budget. Use interviews, workshops, and document review to combine knowledge. If only development participated, walk through the flow with APS to discover batch processing, overnight dependencies, and external escalation. The aim is not the longest list but uncertainty connected to outcomes and useful subsequent analysis.
“The supplier will be available” needs confirmation; “the window ends at 04:00” defines a condition the plan must respect.
Common pitfalls
Incident as future risk; assumption as commitment; opportunity as guaranteed saving; incomplete participation.
