← PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner: decide and adapt

Adaptive planning and verifiable quality

Split delivery usefully and retain consistent completion criteria.

Concept and mechanism

Adaptive planning retains an outcome view and increases detail as execution approaches. A release map should show sequence, dependencies, and enough uncertainty to support decisions. Updating a forecast does not require deleting the baseline: preserve the earlier commitment and reason for change so the decision can be reconstructed. A backlog details needs and orders work; it neither creates funding nor removes dependencies. Split large changes into capabilities that enable feedback. A limited journey with test data and necessary controls may teach more than completing every component in one layer without demonstrable integrated behavior.

Guided application

Use priorities to discuss real commitments. If every item is essential and does not fit, a Must label does not solve capacity: assess alternatives and take infeasibility to the appropriate authority. A Definition of Ready may be a local checklist for preparing understanding; it is neither mandated by the Scrum Guide nor evidence of completion. A Definition of Done describes required increment quality when using Scrum. If required recovery fails, report unfinished work and address the cause. Revising criteria may be necessary when context changes, but requires clear impact and authority; it should not conceal a failure through unilateral decision.

IN PRACTICE

An optional report may be deferred within authority; a mandatory integrity test does not become optional because the date is under pressure.

Common pitfalls

Smaller tickets as a resolved dependency; Ready as Done; priorities without choices; criteria changed to manufacture completion.
