Start with the process and its boundaries: who creates work, which states exist, who decides, and which evidence permits closure. A reconciliation-exception application can organize records, assignments, and approvals without performing low-latency financial calculations. Confirm volume, latency, integration, and licensing requirements before deciding where each responsibility belongs. In the model, separate the business entity from its presentation. An exception can reference a fund and contain several resolution attempts; copying the fund name into every record creates divergence when the name changes. Use references and relationships with explicit cardinality. Technical identity should remain stable even when the business label changes.

Before creating tables, sketch synthetic records and walk through a rename, a team transfer, and an exception reopening. Identify owned and shared data. Extending a table can reuse behavior and fields, but also brings inheritance that needs analysis; do not select the parent merely to save clicks. Documentation distinguishes internal names from labels: scope and internal table names cannot be renamed like display labels. Record that choice early. Build a development prototype using synthetic data and validate relationships and access. The result should explain each exception’s state and decision history without duplicating the financial system responsible for the values.
