A cross-layer view helps explain how technology supports applications and how applications support business behavior. Reading must respect relationship meaning; there is no rule that any upward arrow represents a valid dependency. Follow explicitly modeled elements and relationships and identify missing information. In implementation and migration, a Plateau represents a relatively stable state over a period. A Gap describes a difference between states. A Work Package represents work with outcomes and time and resource limits. A Deliverable identifies a defined result of that work. Do not confuse the intended state with the activity needed to reach it.
Guided application
In a fictional project, an intermediate state keeps queries on the old platform and calculation on the new one. That state can be modeled as a transition plateau. Migrating consumers is work; a delivered adapter is an outcome; missing shared authentication can be a gap between states. Use these distinctions to discuss timing and dependencies with the Project Manager. A completed package does not independently demonstrate that every target-state element is operational. Impact analysis should include affected consumers and processes rather than only the changed server. When a view omits an application to simplify communication, omission does not prove its dependency disappeared. Check the model and owners before planning retirement or changing an operational window.
Coexistence state, migration work, and delivered adapter are different concepts.
Common pitfalls
Plateau treated as task; deliverable treated as complete state; partial view treated as proof of absence.
